On Sunday, November 1, 2009 Nutritionist, Maria Dello of Manhasset, hosted the second annual “Kids n Nutrition” Candy Drive. Kids from all over Manhasset and the surrounding areas donated a total of 200 lbs of Halloween candy in exchange for gifts that included; stainless steel water bottles, stuffed animals, jump ropes, frizz bees, bouncy balls, card games and more. The moms who brought them were all too happy not to have all that candy at home tempting them! Usually following Halloween kid’s and families eat too much candy.
It was a fun and successful day. Families strolled in bringing bags of candy in exchange for toys and healthy treats, the kids had big smiles on their faces and were happy to give up their sweets. Ms. Dello makes great efforts to keep our families healthy and educate about diabetes. Ms. Dello also gave out pedometers and collected donations for JDRF (Juvenal Diabetes Research Foundation) to encourage people to be more active. The Pedometers are a way to “Step into you’re new health plan” Ms. Dello stats “people at high risk of diabetes cut their risk in half by combining consist exercise like walking combined with a healthy diet”.
It is Maria Dello’s pleasure to provide this service for the enrichment and health of tomorrow’s future. A special thanks to Matty’s Toy Stop, Manhasset Sporting Goods and Whole Food Market for their generous donations. All the hard candy will be donated to our troops overseas and the chocolate will be donated to the Kings Point Academy.
